First of all, I will try to explain exactly what “Weird Twitter” is. This small twitter community is significantly different than those run of the mill “funny” twitters, or parody twitters we see on a daily basis. It’s simply a group of people, never real pictures of themselves or identities included, who tweet in unusual and abstract ways. Poor grammar and crass language is often used, but not always. It’s difficult to pin down exactly what can be considered Weird Twitter, and who would be a part of it because of the obscure differences in certain twitters that are associated with it.
Weird Twitter basically begun its reign with the beloved @Horse_ebooks account. (Horse E-books, or Horsey Books, no one will ever know.) This account is almost a father figure to the rest of Weird Twitter, for it was the original abstract account to gain momentum, seeing as it now has over 135,000 followers. Although that number is a mere fraction of people who may follow Justin Bieber or Will Smith, it’s intriguing because the tweets @Horse_ebooks is sending out literally do not mean anything. Speculation surrounds how exactly @Horse_books, and now the rest of Weird Twitter, come up with their tweets. Is it a robot randomly picking parts of sentences off the internet, or is this an creative average Joe who has figured out a secret indulgence of twitter users? @Horse_ebooks is unique because of its originality, and the fact that it never seems to be talking to anyone, just spitting out sentences. Some tweets, for example..
"ENDLESS REPETITIONS OF FLOOR"
"write "autobiographies" and the"
"Baskets are even used to store supplies that crafters use to create other baskets."
Although @Horse_ebooks has gained the most popularity among Weird Twitter fans, other accounts are growing quickly as well (some of my personal favorites being @MeepisMurder, @froghammer and @JasonCarrot). People have grown to appreciate different types of humor from slapstick to sarcasm. Is weird twitter the next big thing? Will these entities become as loved as celebrities twitters? It’s an interesting question, seeing as though the tweets are never trying to be serious or get information across. Or are they? Definitely something to consider.
